Wow! I bought this for Mountain biking and cutting up downed trees that fall over the trail, and it has met and exceeded all expectations! I've cut four 8-9" diameter trees so far - Aspen, fir and lodgepole pine. All were butter with this blade and cut within minutes. The two cutting positions are brilliant and a must-have to evade the log pinch when cutting straight through. This will stay in my pack always, as it's gold for trail maintenance!
This is the best folding saw I have used so far. The blade is thick and strong and the teeth are ground with facets, not just stamped out(that is what they call "triple cut"). The teeth are also well set(the set of a saw is the amount by which the teeth are alternately bent left and right so that the sawed groove will be wider than the blade and not bind the blade). The handle is also very comfortable and it is nice that it has two positions. It pays to pay a bit more and get the best!
I have an 18' softwood tree that required serious pruning since it was causing problems to 2 other trees. I easily sawed right through branches with 2" diameter. But I had a lot of work to do and some branches were at least 4" diameter. I had to seriously work to get through the larger branches, and for some of it I was on a step ladder and used odd reaching angles to get at it. I found this to be difficult work and could feel it through the following day in my forearms. If I had to do this kind of work often, I'd need a larger tool. But for a once per year at most use as I anticipate, it is the right tool for me. The blade has the right kind of teeth for the job I did. Remember though, that wasn't hardwood. Some woods are really hard and this would be unrealistically difficult to use on such hardwoods. The handle is good providing the job matches the tool. When I cut through anything more than 2" wide, I had to use both hands with one hand partially over the other. It's an excellent tool for some jobs and I think it was a bargain for what I paid.
Excellent saw, light, and fast cutting. The blade is monodirectional - not bidirectional. Just remember to cut on draw stroke only - not on push cycle. Easily cuts through 2-3" limbs. Teeth are very aggressive, so it struggles to cut branches under about 3/8" or so. Highly recommend this product, *very* well made.
Great saw, I use it at work all the time to ruin homeowners landscaping, I work for a utility company and you people just let your bushes and whatever grow over our demark points so I bought this to fix that and give myself access to what I need to get to to do my job.
I used this to cut through a fallen 10" diameter log of hardwood. It took a few minutes, but it cut through fast and clean. I continued to use it for several days without any problems with the blade getting dull or the construction breaking as I collected deadfall for camping. Great tool!
My husband bought this saw after watching some outdoor shows. I was wary of the saw, as he handed it over to our children to use, but my fears were put to ease as my kids used it safely. It cuts branches with ease, and I was able to cut through a smaller tree trunk! I would recommend this saw to anyone who wants to make a bugout bag, as this saw would come in very handy.
Excellent and very useful product. Do not be fooled by the size of it, this thing can cut through thick branches.
I tried the saw on 3-inch thick very dry hardwood and it did a wonderful job. The saw has three fixed positions: closed, fully open at 180 degrees for overcutting, and another position for an undercut.
I love this sturdy knife/utility saw. It's a must-have for camping, yard work, or a bugout bag. It's my second one, the first still works as well as it did the day I bought it. The second is for my car tool kit.
